Nikk - Your piano teacher
Music is my life, everything is rhythm, all you need is love. I have been playing music since childhood, initially self-taught, later going on to learn proper technique and theory as well as the Indian classical system. From experience I can say this is NOT an effective way to learn. It's much better to have someone help you through the process! I have been privately teaching music for over 15 years to students of all different: -Learning ability -Age groups, from 8 to 70 years old -Instruments, from piano to tuba -Goals I find 1 on 1 instruction to be the best, as it allows me to focus on the needs and the learning style of the student, and I find it exceptionally rewarding to work with differently abled children- it helps their self-esteem and brings them joy when they get a hold of it, most of the time they will really go far with it! I also have been tutoring in academic subject (reading, math, history, literature, science) applying the same principles and helping students to realize their potential!! This is not an AI generated summary, I wrote this one myself :)

For music instruction, my approach is the same as teaching a language: there is an alphabet, we make words with these letters, then sentences, moving on to entire conversations. We learn to pronounce words correctly and then learn grammar. The other side of it is technique specific to the instrument, which includes exercises relative to the goals of the student. I tend to start with a lot of memorization through repetition, then gradual explanation as we go on. Piano concepts taught by Nikk
The student and tutor reviewed and practiced piano arpeggios and scales, focusing on rhythmic accuracy with a metronome and introducing the concept of modes. They worked on transitioning between octaves and coordinating hands for specific passages, and planned to apply similar practice strategies to the initial measures of a Bach piece.
Modes and Scales: G Mixolydian
Arpeggio Practice Techniques
Rhythmic Practice with Quadruplets
Chord Voicings and Hand Roles
The Tutor and Student reviewed piano scales and their corresponding sharps, then delved into chord construction, inversions, and scale degrees (1-3-5 for major chords). They began applying these concepts to build a song, "Grapefruit Moon," with the Tutor providing a written outline for practice and further study of chord structures.
Scales and Sharps
Basic Chord Construction and Inversions
Chord Progressions and Bass Lines
Degrees of the Scale and Chord Formulas
The Tutor and Student reviewed music theory concepts, including key signatures and chord identification. They practiced playing specific musical passages with a metronome to improve timing and coordination. The session concluded with an introduction to analyzing new sheet music, focusing on understanding chord structures and their notation, with a plan to continue practicing with the metronome.
Chord Voicings and Inversions
Left and Right Hand Coordination
Metronome Practice for Timing and Precision
Key Signatures and Enharmonic Equivalents
The tutor and student explored advanced piano techniques, focusing on harmonic theory, chord progressions, and bass line creation. They practiced identifying and constructing seventh chords, understanding Roman numeral analysis for transposition, and developing creative harmonic choices for songs, with a focus on the sustain pedal's function.
Roman Numerals for Chord Structure
Harmony as Relative to the Chord
The Sustain Pedal
Harmonic Direction and Chord Voicings
The tutor and student worked on developing rhythmic accuracy and timing using a metronome. They practiced scales and bass lines at various tempos, focusing on playing precisely with the beat and identifying musical patterns. The student was advised to continue practicing with the metronome, focusing on the bass notes of the piece, and to incorporate scales as a warm-up.
