Andrea Lee - Get to know your vocal coach
Hi! I’m Andrea Lee Please allow me to introduce myself… A long time ago, in a Galaxy far, far away, I received my Bachelor’s degree in Music Theory as a Voice Major from Susquehanna University. I have over 25 years of experience as a performing singer/songwriter/composer, and have been teaching music lessons for over 20 years. I believe that each student’s musical journey is as unique as their own fingerprint. With my lesson plans, be it for vocal coaching, general music theory/reading, or composition lessons, my students will always be respected for their individual style. Be assured that every lesson that I provide will be tailored specifically for your needs, your goals, and your style of learning. In addition to teaching voice and vocal pedagogy, I am able to instruct music theory, musical arranging, and composition. Music is an all encompassing art form, and I am a firm believer in studying every angel that we choose to explore in order to obtain a more clear and complete understanding of our musical language. While I am classically trained, and my personal songwriting style is best described as “Americana - Folk”, I am very much a student of “the school of rock” and also vocally perform rock, big band jazz, country, folk, musical theatre (I have been in my share of productions), and some occasional blues. I do strum guitar quite a bit as well. I am available for students of all levels and all ages. I’m here to help you build a foundation, and/or build it up so that you have the power to do what you enjoy and want to study - Sing! My general availability is Noon - 6pm EST, Monday - Friday with evening & weekend lessons subject to availability. I do require at least 24 hours notice for scheduling and will always accommodate to the best of my ability. I look forward to working with you!

About My Methods for Vocal Students My first lesson with any student begins with a proper introduction, including understanding their needs and reasons for seeking out coaching. I also care to know what the student’s goals are and how I may help them achieve this. From there, I will ask the student to participate in a general “range test” so that I can assess their vocal range and identify areas that may require more attention. Depending on the student’s experience and any other formal (or ongoing training - i.e. - collage student, etc…), we will likely proceed to some breathing exercises after the range assessment. I have found that this method assures that the student receives a proper warm up for the next part of the lesson, while allowing me to learn about their voice. After the initial assessment and knowing more about the student and their voice, I will ask them to sing a favorite song for me. It really can be anything, any genre. It’s important for me to hear what my student is passionate about. I want to make my students comfortable and I have always found that this helps greatly. Sing what you love and we can go from there! My lessons are always personalized for the needs of my student. We will work together to achieve the student’s goals, and always study the music that the student chooses. I will always have some suggestions for practice, and sometimes they may challenge the student’s “wheelhouse”, but this is only meant to give that little “push” to further and encourage learning. Plainly put, Singing has been my lifelong passion, and I am fortunate to have had amazing Teachers. If I am able to teach others how to more fully embrace and feel confident in this shared passion, I have succeeded.
