Dr. Theertha - Know your tutor
I am Dr. Theertha Nair A. I am currently working as a college lecturer in Kerala, and teaching has always been part of my life. Both my parents are teachers, and from childhood I grew up watching them, slowly dreaming of becoming a college teacher one day—and here I am. While teaching in college, I met many students who struggled even with basic concepts, not because they lacked ability, but because their foundations were weak. I don’t blame students or teachers; both share that responsibility. For me, mathematics is not just numbers—there is a beautiful story behind every concept. I believe teachers should help students see that story and fall in love with the subject. I may not change the world, but if I can make a small positive change for a small group of future learners, that itself is meaningful. And that is why I am here. I started learning maths from scratch and slowly grew into a Doctor of Mathematics, so I know the struggles well. In my class, everything is made to make sense. Instead of only asking “why”, I help students think “why not”. If you want to enjoy maths, understand it deeply, and build real confidence—not just learn formulas—this class is for you.

Class overview
I focus on building strong fundamentals from the very beginning, ensuring students truly understand concepts instead of memorizing formulas. I encourage curiosity and questions, helping students see the story behind every number, and guide them from asking “why” to thinking “why not.” My classes are designed to make learning enjoyable, develop real understanding, and inspire a lasting love for mathematics. Having taught over 200 students, I excel in adapting lessons to different learning levels, using interactive methods, examples from real life, and personalized guidance. I believe every student can excel when their fundamentals are strong, and I aim to build confidence, logical thinking, and problem-solving skills so students not only perform well in exams but also develop a genuine interest and passion for mathematics that lasts a lifetime.

Mathematics concepts taught by Dr. Theertha
The student and tutor worked through several complex numbers and algebra problems, including solving cubic equations, understanding polar and Euler forms, matrix transformations, and calculating volumes of revolution. They practiced applying Vieta's formulas, complex number properties, and integration techniques, with follow-up planned on specific problem areas.
Polar Form of Complex Numbers
Matrix Transformations: Rotation
Volume of Revolution
Roots of Polynomials and Their Properties
The tutor and student reviewed foundational number systems (natural, whole, integers, rational, irrational, real) and complex numbers. They practiced identifying number types, working with complex numbers, and solving true/false statements, with a focus on solidifying these concepts through practice for upcoming topics.
Complex Number Properties
Properties of Numbers
Number Systems Hierarchy
The student and tutor reviewed several complex number topics, including polynomial roots, algebraic manipulation, powers of complex numbers, geometric interpretations (circles, distances, vectors), and trigonometric identities involving complex numbers. They practiced problem-solving techniques and discussed strategies for approaching different types of complex number questions. The tutor encouraged the student to practice remaining questions from a review exercise.
Complex Numbers and Polynomial Roots
Complex Number Manipulation: Rationalization and Simplification
Binomial Expansion and Complex Numbers
Polynomial Long Division and Coefficient Matching
Vieta's Formulas for Polynomial Roots
Properties of Complex Numbers in the Argand Plane
The Tutor and Student worked through numerical methods for solving differential equations, including iterative approximation formulas and the midpoint method. They practiced calculating approximate solutions and differentiating between the order and degree of differential equations, with plans to continue practicing problem-solving techniques.
Order and Degree of Differential Equations
Midpoint Formula for Differential Equations
Numerical Methods for Differential Equations
Euler's Method (and its variations)
The tutor and student reviewed various number systems (natural, whole, integers, rational, irrational) and their properties (commutativity, associativity, distributivity, identity, inverse). They then worked through true/false statements about complex numbers, including closure under operations and the relationship between irrational and complex numbers. The student will be given practice questions and a small test on these topics.

Properties of Real Numbers
Closure Property
Complex Numbers and Their Properties
The Tutor and Student engaged in a detailed review of goodness-of-fit tests for discrete data, covering binomial, Poisson, and uniform distributions. They practiced calculating expected frequencies, determining degrees of freedom, and interpreting chi-squared test results through multiple examples and exercises. The session concluded with plans for the student to complete remaining practice questions.
