I’m Risa Bora, a mathematics tutor with over five years of experience helping students build confidence and master difficult concepts. I began tutoring through Kumon, where I developed a strong foundation in structured learning and guiding students through step-by-step problem solving. Since then, I’ve continued tutoring through platforms and independently, working with students from elementary school through high school in subjects such as algebra, pre-algebra, trigonometry, and general mathematics. My teaching approach focuses on breaking down complex concepts into simple, understandable steps. I believe students learn best when they truly understand the “why” behind a method rather than just memorizing formulas. During lessons, I combine explanation, guided practice, and independent problem solving so students can apply what they’ve learned with confidence. A typical lesson begins with reviewing previously learned material, identifying any gaps in understanding, and then introducing new concepts with clear examples. I often use real-world connections, visual explanations, and step-by-step walkthroughs to make difficult topics easier to grasp. We then work through practice problems together before the student attempts similar problems independently. What sets me apart as a tutor is my patience, adaptability, and focus on building confidence. Every student learns differently, so I adjust my explanations and pace to match their needs. My goal is not only to help students improve their grades but also to help them develop strong problem-solving skills and a deeper understanding of mathematics.
